Hey, Check This Out! Voter Turnout
Trumps Voter Turnout in 2020 Election
This past election proved many of us wrong. For years now there has been this big idea that women and minorities fell on the left side of the political spectrum white men were the ones supporting Trump, however, the polling data from this election tells a very different story. Before I get into the data presented in the article and what I learned... I want to share some of my personal thoughts and opinions... about how insanely ridiculous this is. Below are some words that have come out of Donald Trump's mouth that are just not okay.
On the topic of women:
"Look at that face. Would anybody vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president? I mean, she's a woman, and I'm not supposed to say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?"
"If Hillary Clinton can't satisfy her husband, what makes her think she can satisfy America?”
"If she were a man, I don't think she'd get five percent of the vote."
"Does she look presidential, fellas? Give me a break."
"Now, somebody who a lot of people don't give credit to but in actuality is really beautiful is Paris Hilton. I've known Paris Hilton from the time she's 12, her parents are friends of mine, and the first time I saw her she walked into the room and I said, 'Who the hell is that?'"
"Unattractive both inside and out. I fully understand why her former husband left her for a man — he made a good decision."
"Angelina Jolie is sort of amazing because everyone thinks she's like this great beauty. And I'm not saying she's an unattractive woman, but she's not beauty, by any stretch of the imagination."
'If Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her'

On the topic of minorities:
'Mexican rapists'
'My impeachment = lynching.'
'Let’s shoot migrants! I want an electric wall! A snake and alligator filled moat!'
'Low IQ refugees'
'Sh**hole countries'
'They all have AIDS' and 'go back to their huts'
There will always be a number of people who don't care about what a candidate has said as long as it doesn't interfere with things such as their policy. And of course, in this election, there were some old quotes by Joe Biden that were brought up as well and I continue to support him... or I guess settle for him... Anyway, my point is these quotes are just a few things Donald Trump has said on the topic of women and minorities that are flat-out misogynistic and racist, yet somehow he had record-high support from these groups. As a woman and a feminist, I can not support him because I believe his views on abortion, healthcare, LGBTQ+ rights, criminal justice reform, and so many more are detrimental to the feminist movement and the wellbeing of all women in the United States.
Okay, so now onto the article I looked at. The research presented found that women shifted towards Trump this cycle and he won white women by 11%. The article also noted that in our last election cycle, the Democratic party won Black women by 90 percentage points, and this year, by 81 points which is very interesting considering we have a Black woman on a major party ticket this year, being the Democratic party. This resulted in a 9% shift by Black women towards Tump. Trump saw gains with Black and Hispanic men as well, but not as much as he did with women.
Looking into the Latino and Hispanic vote, the majority was in favor of the Democratic, as it usually is, however, there was a significant shift to the other side.
Going back to what I mentioned in the beginning, about a shift in support from white men, there was a good amount of votes that went to the Democratic Party. I found this extremely interesting considering he has in the past had a lot of support from white men. In 2016, Trump won white men by a margin of 31 percentage points, and in 2020 by 23 percentage points.
The conclusion that the article comes to regarding the question of, "what changed to produce these apparently extraordinary results? The truth is absolutely nothing" "What changed in the racial and gender dynamics this cycle to produce these apparently extraordinary results? The truth is, absolutely nothing. These trends have been underway for the entirety of Trump’s public life." I find it hard to believe there is no true reason for these shifts and I have to say in my personal opinion, Americans (including Republicans) have come to their senses that Donald Trump is just not fit to lead a country and that Joe Biden was much more suited for the job.
