Hey Check This Out Election
The article that I chose was about how Donald Trump won more votes from black and latino voters in this election than he did last election. More women voted for Trump this year than in the last election, in the last election he won the vote of white women by 9 percent but this year he won by 11 percent. The article also said “In 2016, Democrats won Hispanic and Latina women by 44 percentage points; in 2020 they won by 39.“ It also went on to say that Trump had support from 9% more black women than he had last year. AND this shift was also shown across men as well. With the Republican Party always being shown as the racist party, this was quite a surprise to me. The largest portion who shifted away from Trump were the people that are most frequently associated with being Trump supporters, white men. While this was a surprise to me it is apparently something that has been going on for years and it was expected by many that the republican party would have many white men leave its voters and the democratic party would have many voters of color do the same. I found this really interesting because the Democratic party likes to present themselves as beacons of equality and fair treatment for everyone and trying to get rid of racism and descrimination, but the people that they claim to champion are leaving their base every year. In this election an incredibly big thing in determining the results was was how many white men “defected” from Donald Trump’s political base. In the end, white men were basically what ended up winning the election for Joe Biden
